Updated again (hopefully for the last time) on 4/16/2022: Covid-19 transmission and positivity rates are low across the state and region. The virus will continue to mutate, so there is always the possibility of a dangerous new strain... Barring something like that, the worst of this pandemic is behind us (at least here in the US mountain west), and it is reasonable for most people to go back to living like we did before March 2020.

Use a long, random, unique password for every web site where you have an account. Really, use a different one for each site. The best way to do this is with a password manager like LastPass (but a stack of index cards is probably fine too). You still need to memorize your passwords for LastPass and primary email account. It's easy to generate good, strong passwords from any line from a book or song. For example, "He's in it for the quiche, you might as well not ask him for no free stuff, capiche?" ==> !Hii4tq,Umawnah4nfsc?

This is more or less the talk that I gave to some OU honors students on September 3, 2015, as part of a sort of lecture series on 'Majors and Careers in a Volatile Economy'. It seems mostly correct in retrospect, if not terribly well-written.
In what is surely a sign of a deeply diseased mind, one of my first thoughts upon reading the opening chapter of 'Walden' was to compare Henry David Thoreau (unfavorably) with Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight Roy Nelson.
Once upon a time, in a faraway land called New Jersey, there lived a woman and her three lovely daughters. They were reasonably happy, although it must be said that raising three teenage girls is quite a task for anyone, especially a single mother. The youngest daughter, who had been rather unfortunately named Blue, went through a rebellious phase about the time she turned 18. She decided that she no longer wished to live with her family, and began chasing boys in clubs and bars, in the hope that one of them might be able and willing to sweep her off into a life of comfort. This seemed easier than finding a job and roommates, especially since she really was quite attractive.
